Shock! Russian student had fallen from the balcony (VIDEO 18+)

An inquest heard Anastasia Tutik, 19, and Miguel Ramos, 18, lost their balance on the sixth floor of a block of flats in Deptford, southeast London.

Two students fell 60ft to their deaths while ‘making out’ on the balcony of a luxury apartment, an inquest was told today.

Anastasia Tutik, 19, and Miguel Ramos, 18, were in a clinch when they lost their balance and plummeted from the sixth-floor ledge at the block of flats in Deptford, southeast London.

The pair had met earlier that evening at a friend’s party in the flat, which has spectacular views of the Thames and Canary Wharf.

They had both been drinking before they went outside together.

Anastasia was seen sitting on the railing with her legs wrapped around Miguel and they were kissing and cuddling in the moments before they fell.

Coroner Dr Andrew Harris described their deaths as a ‘tragic accident’ during the inquest at Southwark Coroner’s Court.

"There is nothing from any witness statement that indicates they intended to take their lives, they were happy students celebrating the end of term and about to go home," he said.

"They did not know each other well and it does not seem likely that any speculation as to them ending their lives could hold any water at all and I discount that."

He added: "They were at a party, were engaging in intimacy on a balcony when they accidentally fell to the ground.

"Both had been drinking and were intoxicated when they made the decision to sit on the railing."

Dr Harris said his thoughts were with the families of both teenagers: "Their family are not here and tragically will have to celebrate Christmas without their young people, who died while studying in a foreign country.

"It was a tragic accident."

Anastasia Tutlik

Both Anastasia and Miguel died from multiple injuries and Dr Harris recorded a verdict of accidental death in which alcohol was a contributing factor.

Anastasia came to the UK from Russia in September last year and was studying her A-levels at Bellerbys College.

Miguel, from Monterrey, Mexico, was taking an English summer course at Embassy College and had only been in the country for a few weeks.

His father Miguel Lozano Munguia is the former mayor of the town of Pesqueria in Mexico and was once head of the centre-left Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) in the state of Nueva Leon.

Fellow student Alfonso Garza, also from Mexico, who lived at the flat said the couple met that night and were getting to know each other at the party.

He added: "They met at the party. He liked her and she liked him so they went onto the balcony to make out — to kiss and cuddle. They were alone on the balcony."

In a witness statement read to the inquest he said: ‘We went out and a friend shouted "they’re not here".

"I couldn’t believe it I walked over and saw them over the edge and he shouted "they’ve jumped".

"I looked and could see them lying there, neither was moving and there was a lot of blood coming from Miguel’s head.

"Anastasia was lying either on top of him or to the side.

"I was in complete shock."

Blessing Adedoyin, who lived with her partner Samson Oguntayo, 32, a self-employed events manager in neighbouring Cornmill House, said the couple was ‘doing some really dangerous stuff’ before they plunged over the edge.

"Initially when I looked over the girl was sat on the ledge of the balcony," she told the inquest.

"She was sat and the man was in between her legs, which were open.

"She had her arms around his head and he was feeling her legs."

Ms Adedoyin added: ‘Nobody would ever sit on the ledge, it’s dangerous and I was surprised that they were.

"Looking at them the guy especially looked drunk because he was moving around and touching her, rubbing her legs and I just thought this guy’s drunk.

"Nobody who was sober would do that and the way he was touching her was quite uncoordinated.

"They were there for a couple of minutes then two friends came out and they got down.

"I thought their friends had called them back in because what they were doing was dangerous.

"But a couple of minutes later I looked over again and they had come back out onto the balcony in the same position.

"She had her arms around his head.

"I thought ‘oh my gosh they’ve gone out again’.

"I didn’t know what to do. I thought if I told them to get off the noise would startle them.

"It just happened so quickly.

"I was holding my daughter and Samson got up to get something from the fridge and I remember him saying ‘one of these days someone is going to fall from one of these balconies’."

She said the next thing she saw was Miguel’s legs toppling over the ledge.

"I just saw the guy’s legs tipping over and they both went down at the same time," Ms Adedoyin continued.

"They went down together.

"He didn’t look very balanced or coordinated and they were locked together when they fell.

"I saw them go over and just gasped."

Mr Oguntayo said in a statement: "The guy was lifting the girl and putting her on the banister, he kept on doing it.

"He was putting her on there. You could see they were doing some really dangerous stuff.

"It is not the first time we have seen people on the balcony acting up."

Mr Oguntayo ran down and jumped over a fence and discovered the couple in a pool of blood.

Emergency services were called to Knights Tower in Wharf Street at around 12.115am on 11 June this year. The couple were pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination revealed Migual had 393 micrograms of alcohol in his blood and Anastasia had 85, which would have put her just over the legal driving limit.

Investigating officer DI Charmaine Laurencin said: "Alcohol played a significant part in this incident.

"I think had neither party consumed so much alcohol potentially they would not have sat on that balcony.

"Because the evidence is they were entwined, she had her arms around his neck and once you lose centre of gravity you are going to topple off."

She added that there was no evidence of foul play or any third party involvement.

Bellerbys hosts up to 300 international students who study A-levels, foundation courses and other qualifications.

No family or friends of the two students attended the inquest.
