Down syndrome model Madeline Stuart shares romantic snaps with her boyfriend

When Madeline Stuart graced the New York Fashion Week runway in figure-hugging couture, she brought the fashion crowd to its feet.

In that moment the 18-year-old model, who has Down syndrome, captured the hearts of people worldwide, but her own heart lies closer to home.

On the same day she returned to her Queensland roots to grace the Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival runway, Madeline shared a photo of herself on social media kissing her long-time boyfriend, Robbie Streeting.

The 18-year-old Brisbane resident made history last month as the second woman with Down syndrome to walk in NYFW.

On Saturday she took part in the Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival, walking for Myer, Australia Zoo, Embellished Kaftans and The Beach Skirt. 

With her red hair pulled back with an elegant floral headpiece, Madeline took to the runway for Myer in a classic black dress.

The design featured a low-cut neckline and fitted waist that flared in to a full-bodied skirt that ended just above the knee. 

Designers were thrilled to collaborate with the influential model who has become a poster girl for other people with Down syndrome.

The Beach Skirt, who are based in the Sydney suburb of Manly, dressed Madeline in a red and white striped skirt, white singlet top and soft peach bandanna, accessorised with a chunky necklace.

'Has been a pleasure meeting you and having you walking for The Beach Skirt,' they wrote on Facebook, alongside a photo of the model.

'Keep on dreaming: High five!' 

Madeline walked for Sunshine Coast brand Embellished Kaftans, founded by Karen Chandwani.

Karen, who is originally from Mumbai in India, is known for her heavily printed designs.

Madeline wore a mainly green kaftan dress with pops of red and orange.

Her last outfit was a checkered shirt and khaki pants for Australia Zoo. 

The Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival, held on October 17, featured 30 catwalk shows with national and international designers.

Couture, ready-to-wear, ethical design and swim and resort collections graced the runway from designers Nicola Finetti, Myer, Urban Prima, Sharka Bosakova, Aleks Bridal, Secrets Shhh and Australia Zoo.

Madeline was recently nominated for 2016 Australian of the Year after challenging perceptions of beauty worldwide. 

Madeline's mother, Rosanne, told Daily Mail Australia last month her daughter's success was a testament to the growth of the equality movement and her daughter's unwavering dedication.

'I think it is time people realised that people with Down syndrome can be sexy and beautiful,' she said.

'We will only continue doing this as long as Maddy is happy doing this. It's only what makes Maddy happy that's important.'
