SAM Smith has faced intense pressure after accidentally claiming to be the first openly gay man to win an Oscar.

As he collected the gong for his Bond theme The Writing's On The Wall, the 23-year-old dedicated his award to the LGBT community before making the innocent faux-pas.

Clearly seeing red, Dustin took to Twitter to snap: "Hey Sam Smith, if you have no idea who I am, it may be time to stop texting my fiancé."

Trying to smooth over the situation, a worse for wear Sam replied: "So hungover. Genuinely feels like a dream.

"Second openly gay man to win an oscar or third or fourth or 100th, it wasn't my point.

"My point was to shine some light on the LGBT community who I love so dearly.

"Apologies for the mix up @DLanceBlack I'll be sure to check out your films now… belated Congrats on the Oscar."

However, Dustin appears to have loved the new found attention, replying: "Well this has proven to be a lively day on Twitter.

"From humor to anger. The former my intent… in defense of history. Much love to all. [sic]"

Not stopping there, the writer continued: "Dear Internet: @TomDaley1994 and @samsmithworld are pals. They text.

"Thus my surprise Sam took me for a closet case! Feel free to laugh. [sic]"

Regardless of Dustin's intent, the posts only hyped up the situation, with thousands of fans messaging Sam abuse for his incorrect claims.

And it seems the stress was too much for the singer as he announced he has quit the social media platform for the foreseeable future.

"I'm logging off for a while," he wrote, before adding: "Some Martinis shaken not stirred are definitely in order."

Don't worry mate, you still have four Grammys, three BRITs and one Golden Globe more than Dustin.
