Kesha joined Zedd on stage at Coachella earlier this month for a surprise performance of his song, "True Colors," and now the song is finally available to download. Listening to the lyrics, it's easy to see why the singer collaborated with the superstar DJ.
"I've escaped my capture and I have no master," Kesha sings. "And somehow, it's like I've waited all my life, one page at a time."
"I'll show you my true colors," the song continues. "And no, I won't apologize for the fire in my eyes. Let you show you my true colors. It's ain't your rainbow."
As previously reported, Kesha has been embroiled in a legal battle in which she is asking to be released from her recording contract with producer Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe Records, owned by Sony.
The 29-year-old singer has accused him of "sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally" abusing her for years.
Dr. Luke has emphatically denied the allegations. A judge denied a preliminary injunction that would have allowed Kesha to terminate her contract with Sony, but Dr. Luke's label Kemosabe gave Kesha permission to release the song.
Just to clarify:
We didn't use any loop holes. Kemosabe / RCA gave us permission to release this song!— Zedd (@Zedd) 27 апреля 2016 г.
"It's such a blessing that Zedd has given me this opportunity to record his song 'True Colors,' Kesha said in a statement obtained by ABC News Radio. "This song’s message spoke to me so deeply that I knew I had to find my own interpretation and record it, to spread the beautiful message of personal empowerment."
"It gives me hope that I will someday soon be able to release my own album," she continued. "Until then, let's all celebrate our own truth."
Zedd also commented on the release of the single, saying, "'True Colors' is an extremely meaningful song to me, and when I learned the song also spoke to Kesha it became even more special and took on new meaning."
Music can be freedom!
