Germany ‘urgently needs tighter gun control laws in wake of Munich mass shooting’

STRICT gun control laws are urgently needed in Germany after Friday's horrific mass shooting, according to the country's Vice Chancellor.

Crazed Ali David Sonboly, 18, gunned down nine helpless victims during a rampage outside a McDonalds restaurant and then busy shopping centre in Munich.

And now Sigmar Gabriel, head of the Social Democrats, has demanded that more must be done to limit access to deadly weapons, saying gun control is an “important issue”.

He added: “We must continue to do all we can to limit and strictly control access to deadly weapons.”

The comments come as questions were raised as to how Sonboly, who was reportedly obsessed with mass killings, gained access to the 9mm Glock pistol used in the massacre.

German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said German gun laws are already strict, but added he planned to review rules where necessary.

He said: “We have to evaluate very carefully if and where further legal changes are needed.”

Police raided the home of warped Sonboly on Friday where they discovered books on spree shootings, including one called 'Why Children Kill'.

Another book was called 'Amok in the Head' which also focused on young people carrying out mass shootings.

The 18-year-old hacked Facebook profile to lure his victims to the McDonalds where he began his shooting rampage, police said.

The calls for ramped-up restrictions contrast sharply with similar incidents in the US.

The National Rifle Association sparked outrage after calling for armed guards at schools following the Sandy Hook massacre in 2012, which saw 20 children murdered.
