The club will remain closed until a licence review is held in the next 28 days.
London’s Fabric club is to remain closed after its licence was temporarily suspended by Islington Council, following the suspected drug-related deaths of two 18-year-old men.
The club closed voluntarily at the weekend to allow police to investigate the deaths, but BBC News reports that the venue will have to remain closed until a licence review is held in the next 28 days.
A spokesman from the Metropolitan Police, which requested the licence be suspended, said: “Officers felt the need to act due to concerns about the safety of those attending the club because of the supply of class A drugs in the venue and the recent deaths of two young men linked to the club.”
One of the men died outside the venue last Saturday (August 6) after collapsing at around 8:20am.
Fabric has yet to issue a statement on the licence suspension, but last week said: “For the past two years fabric has operated without incident but tragically in the past nine weeks two 18-year-old boys have died as a consequence of drug overdoses.“
In order to understand how this has happened we have agreed with the police and other agencies to suspend our operation whilst we investigate.
