Wrestling Star Alberto Del Rio suspended from WWE

WWE superstar Alberto Del Rio has reportedly been suspended by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

On Wednesday, it was announced by WWE that superstar Alberto Del Rio is suspended for 30 days. According to the statement, the suspension, due to an unspecified violation of the company’s Wellness Policy, is set to begin on Thursday, Aug. 18.

Del Rio was just recently featured on WWE’s Smackdown Live Tuesday night in a losing effort against John Cena for the main event. He won’t be a part of the upcoming SummerSlam 2016 pay-per-view, as he was not officially listed for the match card. Ironically, AJ Styles joked with Del Rio about that during a backstage segment on Tuesday’s Smackdown Live.

For Del Rio, this marks his first official suspension from the company. Under their policy, superstars are given a sort of “three strikes” approach, where three violations results in termination from the company.

Just recently, WWE star Roman Reigns had returned from a suspension, also his first. Reigns served the suspension in enough time to appear in a main event championship match at a pay-per-view event.

Del Rio hasn’t been pushed as prominently recently by the company and there had even been rumors he was unhappy with his role. However, he admitted to enjoying other superstars on the roster and working with them. There had been other rumors that Paul Levesque aka “Triple H” told Vince McMahon he doesn’t want Del Rio working there, so the two could be at odds.

During the 2016 WWE Draft, Del Rio was drafted to the Smackdown Live show which is currently run by Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan as on-air personalities.

In addition to all of that, Del Rio has ties to one of the WWE women’s wrestlers. For weeks now, it’s been reported that he and women’s wrestler Paige are in a relationship. Paige has also been off WWE programming for some time. With the 30-day suspension, it will likely give Del Rio some extra time to spend with his romantic interest as she’s recovering from injury issues.

Based on the rumors with Triple H and Del Rio, don’t count out the company just cutting him loose altogether even though it’s his first violation of the policy.
