Research has shown that sleeping naked has many benefits for your health and wellbeing, so you might think twice next time you reach for your favourite snuggly PJs…

It could help you lose weight

Research has found that staying cool throughout the night helps increase your metabolism — which means you burn fat quicker. Your body produces a healthy fat when you sleep in cool temperatures, this fat helps burn calories while it generates body heat to keep your body warm. Sleeping naked could therefore shift those pounds and help you lose weight!

It boosts anti-ageing hormones

Keeping your body too warm can disrupt the release of your main anti-ageing hormones — melatonin and growth hormone. Melatonin is released when we sleep in total darkness and growth hormone is released when the temperature drops. Sleeping naked keeps your body at a cool temperature, ensuring the release of anti-ageing hormones.

You'll feel closer to your partner

Skin on skin contact releases a feel-good hormone called oxytocin which brings couples closer together by making you feel more connected with your partner. Oxytocin also helps alleviate stress and depression by combating the harmful effects of cortisol and reducing blood pressure.

It's healthy for your hair and skin

The anti-ageing hormones released when we sleep at a cool temperature are responsible for keeping skin youthful and hair luminous. Being too hot in the night could also damage your hair as the salt present in sweat can dry out strands. This salt can also build up and irritate the scalp if left unwashed for a few days.

It's better for your intimate area

Clothes and underwear that cling to your body can lead to a growth of bacteria that may cause infections. Giving your intimate area some air can prevent such infections and keep you healthy and clean.

You'll have a better sleep

Studies have shown that sleeping in cooler temperatures helps you sleep better, so if you ditch that extra layer and sleep naked you're probably be in for a better sleep!
