Police in Queensland, Australia, have been left red-faced when a Facebook appeal for a missing teenager went wrong.
The force published a post on its page, which consisted of a photograph of a young woman with the caption "Can you help us find a 17-year-old girl missing from Carindale?". It was shared multiple times and received plenty of sad and shocked reactions.
However, it was one particular comment that elevated the post.
Erian Thompson, the alleged missing teen, commented on the post to say she was fine and "legit" sitting in her bedroom. The 17-year-old explained that she'd had a fight with her sister and that it was an "over reaction".
Queensland Police Service responded to Thompson to say they were glad she was safe, but that she still needed to be sighted by the police to confirm that she was home and well.
A spokesperson for the force told the Daily Mail that Thompson was found safe and well just before 5pm.
The Facebook post, which was shared more than 800 times, was taken down shortly after.
