Hugh Jackman has waved goodbye to 16 years of playing Wolverine with a parting gift to director Bryan Singer who cast him as the metal-clawed superhero.
The 47-year-old Aussie action star was cast as Logan in the 2000 original X Men movie after Irish actor Stuart Townsend dropped out last minute.
Next year will see Hugh don his adamantium claws one final time in the third Wolverine solo outing directed by 2013’s director James Mangold, but it was original X Men director Bryan who got Hugh’s special thanks.
Thank you so much @thehughjackman for commissioning the brilliant comic artist #joequesada to make these fantastic and very personal covers for me. I will cherish them and our long friendship and collaboration always! #xmen #wolverine #professorx #comics
‘Thank you so much @thehughjackman for commissioning the brilliant comic artist #joequesada to make these fantastic and very personal covers for me. I will cherish them and our long friendship and collaboration always!’ 51-year-old Bry wrote on Instagram.
He posted a snap of a comic book mock up featuring Hugh as Wolverine and signed with the caption: ‘Dear Bryan, It all started with you, Bub! 1999-2016! From the bottom of my heart, thank you.’
The as-yet-untitled final Wolverine film is due for release in March next year and is believed to be a sequel to this years’ X-Men: Apocalypse with diabolical villain Mr Sinister (teased in a post credits scene of Apocalypse) set to be Wolverine’s antagonist.
