Justin Timberlake is in the clear after earlier reports suggested that the pop star was under investigation by American authorities after he shared a picture of his voting booth – an act which is illegal in his home state of Tennessee.

The now-deleted picture was posted on Instagram and Justin captioned the snap with a plea for his fans to get out and vote early.

Unfortunately for Justin the state prohibits registered voters from taking photos or recording video in polling places but TMZ have now confirmed that the official they spoke to ‘says he made a mistake’.

The state official confirmed that ‘although the D.A. was aware of the selfie, no law enforcement agent, election commission official or police officer had filed a formal complaint, so the matter wasn’t on the table for review’.
Why would you do that bro??

A spokesperson for the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office had earlier confirmed that they had been ‘made aware of a possible violation of election law’.

If he had been found guilty he could have faced a 30-day jail sentence and a $50 fine.

Justin’s Instagram snap showed the pop star voting in his home country, writing: ‘Hey you! Yeah, YOU! I just flew from LA to Memphis to #rockthevote !!! No excuses, my good people.

‘There could be early voting in your town too. If not, November 8th! Choose to have a voice! If you don’t, then we can’t HEAR YOU! Get out and VOTE! #excerciseyourrighttovote.’
