Grange Hill and The Railway Children actress Deddie Davies dies aged 78

Deddie Davies, the actress best-known as Mrs Perks in The Railway Children, has died aged 78.
The actress, who most recently starred as donkey-owner Marj in Sky 1’s Stella, had reportedly been ill for a while before she passed away.

Stella co-creator Ruth Jones was one of the first people to pay tribute to Davies after news broke that she had died.

She said: ‘I saw her about a month ago and showed her the Christmas special on my laptop. She loved working on Stella.

‘She said it kept her going and she was massively loved by all the cast and crew.
‘She was one of those rare people who didn’t possess a grain of self pity and whose company always brightened your day.’
