TRIBUTES have been paid to two teenagers who died at Scotland's biggest music festival, T in the Park.

The pair have been named locally as Megan Bell and Peter MacCallum, both 17, as investigations are launched into their deaths.

Miss Bell and Mr MacCallum died on the same night, at the hugely popular event in Strathallan Castle, Perthshire.

Megan, reported to be from Seaham, County Durham, collapsed on the festival’s Slam dance stage.

Reports suggest Peter MacCallum died in his tent, later the same night in an unrelated incident.

Police are yet to be named formally named the victims but are not ruling out drink and drug related deaths at this early stage.

Friends and family took to social media pay tribute to their loved ones.

Megan Bell's aunt Joanne Thompson posted a message on Facebook saying: “Our gorgeous beautiful bubbly niece has fallen asleep I’m sitting here wishing it was all a bad dream.”

Bethanie Tindle said: “Don’t want to believe this. It will never sink in this beautiful girl has left us way too early.

“She had her full life ahead of her. What a huge miss you will be. I love you Megan.”

Danielle Wilson posted: “Heartbreaking. My heart goes out to Megan’s family.”

On Facebook Ellena Davies, wrote: "RIP to one of my longest friends Peter MacCallum, so heartbreaking to witness something so horrible."

And another man, aged 18 and from Motherwell, was taken to hospital after claiming his drink had been spiked with drugs.

Festival organisers have urged revellers to get rid of any drugs they may have bought, and watch out for super strong ecstasy said to be at the site.

The incidents follow an alert days ago over ecstasy tablets six times stronger than normal which police feared could be circulating at the festival.

The tablets are already suspected to have caused the deaths of two young men in Ayrshire last month.

Festival director Geoff Ellis said: "We are shocked and saddened by today's news and our thoughts are with the families and friends at this time.

"We are offering our full support and assistance."

Already, officials are calling for an investigation into the future of the festival.

Liz Smith, MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife said the event was already on trial following widespread safety concerns last year and its licence was now issued only on a year-to-year basis.

She said: "I think many people – including myself – gave promoters DF Concerts the benefit of the doubt that they could sort the problems for 2016."

The Scottish MP added that the recent incidents will "raise questions about whether everything possible really is being done to safeguard the safety of those who attend the event."
