BURGLARS beware — the new Nest Outdoor Cam brings smarter home protection and security alerts sent straight to your phone.
Google has made securing your home more tech-friendly than ever with the launch of its smartest security camera yet.
The Nest Cam Outdoor lets users keep an eye on their property wherever they are in the world, with images beamed directly to their smartphone, tablet, or for the first time, their Apple Watch or Android wearable.
Nest says that the camera is "completely waterproof", and is designed to left outside permanently, meaning it won't suffer in the rain or snow.
You don't even need a specialised engineer to set up, as the camera's magnetic base lets you set it up wherever you want — it just needs to be plugged in to get it running.
The Nest Cam Outdoor provides high-definition video at all times, and can swivel to survey a 130-degree view across your garden or front driveway.
It'll even work at night time, as it's equipped with a powerful Night Vision mode that uses eight infrared LEDs to make sure nothing is missed.
And if you do spot something strange lurking around, or just a delivery man heading to your door when you aren't home, you can speak to them using the camera's built-in speaker and microphone.
The camera will even use sophisticated machine learning to detect between a person approaching, compared to a dog or a car passing by, which previously could have triggered an unnecessary alarm.
The Nest Cam Outdoor will be available in the US now, costing $199 per item (although multi-packs will also be available), and will go on sale in the UK later this year, although there's no news on a British price just yet.
However it is worth noting that if you do want the video content stored online for you to peruse later, this will come with a cost, as the company charges for subscription to its Nest Aware service.
Bought by Google in January 2014 for £2bn, Nest released the first version of its smart security camera last June, although this was only able to be used indoors.
The company has also released a Nest smoke and carbon monoxide detector alongside three generations of its famous smart thermostats, which let you control the temperature of your home via your smartphone.
Google has also recently unveiled Google Home, a smart hub which uses in-built microphones to listen for your commands, such as dictating your upcoming calendar appointments, the fastest route to work, and reply to any unread emails or text messages.
