Police in line for diversity award

Cheshire Constabulary has been shortlisted for a national award for its work in attracting more diverse recruits to policing.

Cheshire’s Insight Programme is designed to ensure that the force can attract talent from across all of Cheshire’s communities, including from black and minority communities, and the gay and lesbian community, and was developed in response to the force’s own concerns that it had too few black and minority officers.

The scheme was launched in February this year and has already more than doubled its number of BME applicants.

The programme has already won accolades, having being shortlisted as a finalist in this year’s Business in the Community race equality awards.

Now The Guardian has announced that the Constabulary has been shortlisted for its Public Service of the Year awards. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 29 November, in London.
