Five people are trapped and 40 people have been injured after a tram overturned in south London.
Police described it as a ‘serious incident’ at Sandilands tram stop in Croydon, warning people to stay away from the area where the tram came into problems in a tunnel around 6.10am.

Witness Hannah Collier said: ‘Heard a massive crash outside my window, now emergency services everywhere for the overturned tram.
Hope everyone is okay.’
It came as heavy rain drenched the capital throughout the night.
So far it is not yet clear what made the two carriages overturn.
