Little Mix put breakups behind them as Shawn Mendes bonds with James Arthur at Jingle Bell Ball

The music stars of the moment descended on the O2 arena for the biggest pop party in London, the annual Capital FM Jingle Bell Ball.

Hosted across two days, the event saw Little Mix, Shawn Mendes, Craig David, DNCE, Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding, Olly Murs, The Vamps, Sigma and James Arthur share the stage as they performed in front of 30,000 music fans.

Heading the line-up were homegrown talents Little Mix. And while Jesy Nelson was nursing a broken heart after her recent split from fiancé Jake Roche, the singer offered some good advice for anyone else who was struggling with a breakup.

"You have to go through the stages of just crying it out," she explained, keeping her composure. "Be around your friends and having that support and then you get yourself out and you mingle."

The Essex star seemed to be showing her Rixton singer ex just what he has given up as she strutted the stage in a PVC leotard and fishnet tights.

Perrie Edwards, too, has clearly gotten over her ex, and the bandmates who brought their own modern take on girl power to pop appeared to be making the most of their single status as they were carried into the arena by musclebound men.

Canadian teen sensation Shawn Mendes made a flying visit to the UK especially for the event. While the singer had a chance to meet his UK fans, he also made the most of the opportunity to rub shoulders with some British acts.

X Factor alumnus James Arthur waxed lyrical about the 18-year-old star, calling him "the nicest dude in the world" as he shared a pic of the pair bonding backstage.

US band DNCE brought the house down with their Summer anthem Cake By The Ocean while Nathan Sykes left his band The Wanted behind for a solo appearance.

Cheeky chappie Olly Murs was on good form as he hit the red carpet. The Wrapped Up singer, who earlier admitted that a video of him saving a choking woman in a restaurant was part of a sketch for Alan Carr's Happy Hour, played up for the camera before taking to the stage.

Speaking at the event, the singer revealed his ambitions to record with Niall Horan.
