Obama vows to let 10,000 refugees into US despite fears JIHADIS could slip through net

BARACK Obama has vowed to let in 10,000 Syrian refugees to the US by the end of the year despite widespread fears that jihadis could also sneak into the country.

The US president last night promised to let in the desperate refugees in a bid to tackle the worst refugee crisis since the Second World War.

He said he is "going to keep on pushing" to admit them, saying: "Administratively I think now we have the process to speed it up.

"Our goal is to continue to try to make the case to Congress and the American people that this is the right thing to do.

"And we believe that we can hit those marks before the end of the year."

But critics of the president have blasted his policy over fears that the move could open the door to terrorists.

Earlier this week it was claimed that US immigration services are failing to vet the social media accounts of refugees for extremism.

Florida Republican Vern Buchanan said: "What is far more important than the arbitrary number of 10,000 is whether these refugees can be properly screened.

"If the answer is no, which is obviously the case given testimony by the FBI director and homeland security secretary, then we should not let a single one into the country."

Fears over national security in the US have been rife since two terrorists murdered 14 people in San Bernardino, California.

A top FBI director said that shooters Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik were "radicalised" on the internet.
